Boat Valuation for Titusville Owners and Buyers

A vessel in storage, a cruising boat at a slip, and a yacht midway through a refit should not be treated as identical valuation assignments. Great River & Lakes – Marine Surveying Co. welcomes boat and yacht appraisal inquiries in Titusville and the northern Indian River area, beginning with the purpose of the report and the boat's actual condition.

Our Cocoa Beach office is planned to open in November 2026. Contact us to confirm availability, assignment suitability, and access before relying on a valuation deadline. Provide any requirements from the intended recipient at the start.

What Is the Appraisal For?

Boat valuations may support a purchase or sale, insurance, financing, ownership transfer, asset records, estate matters, or another defined purpose. The intended use affects the research, inspection, effective date, assumptions, and report format.

Tell us who will rely on the report and whether particular credentials or documentation are required. A report prepared for one purpose is not automatically suitable for another. Third-party acceptance should be confirmed with the intended recipient rather than assumed.

Valuing a Stored or Partly Rebuilt Boat

Titusville has both marina facilities and upland boatyard storage. For an ashore vessel, describe the storage period, support arrangement, equipment removed, and systems that cannot be operated. For a refit, identify completed work, remaining work, and the documents available to substantiate it.

An appraisal must distinguish the boat's observed state from assumptions about future completion or operating condition. A project described as nearly finished may still have untested machinery or substantial work outstanding. Supply a current equipment list and dated records so the assignment is based on more than the listing description.

Condition, Equipment and Market Evidence

Relevant information may include builder, model, year, dimensions, hull construction, engine configuration, equipment, modifications, maintenance, observable deficiencies, and comparable market data. Similar model names alone do not make two vessels equivalent.

A documented repower, replacement rig, or navigation upgrade may matter to the assessment, but the amount spent is not necessarily the amount added to market value. Likewise, an asking price is evidence of an offer, not proof that a sale occurred at that figure.

Inspection Access Around Titusville

Provide the exact marina slip, storage yard, or private location. Titusville Municipal Marina and the Westland Marina area are local planning reference points. If the assignment needs underwater access, Westland advertises haul-out and launch services; confirm current suitability, scheduling, contractor access, and charges directly.

Vessel length, beam, draft, weight, and lifting instructions are needed for yard planning. A haul-out, launch, sea trial, specialist machinery inspection, or additional visit should be expressly included or excluded from the agreed scope. Mention of a facility does not imply affiliation.

Appraisal or Marine Survey?

A standalone appraisal centers on a defined valuation question. A condition-and-valuation survey also documents accessible vessel condition within its scope. A pre-purchase survey is planned to help a buyer evaluate the boat before acceptance and may include more extensive inspection arrangements.

If an insurer is requesting renewal documentation, review our Titusville insurance survey service. If you are deciding whether to buy, see the Titusville pre-purchase survey page. Send the recipient's instructions so the office can discuss the appropriate assignment.

Records to Gather

  • Vessel identity, specifications, equipment inventory, and current photographs.

  • Maintenance records and engine or generator hours when known.

  • Invoices and details for structural repairs, repowering, rigging, and refits.

  • Previous surveys and descriptions of known damage or limitations.

  • The intended use, users, effective date, and reporting requirements.

If a past effective date is required, identify it explicitly and supply records relevant to that period. A present-day inspection does not by itself establish historic condition or value. If records are unavailable, explain that before the assignment is agreed.

Sailboats, Powerboats and Catamarans

A cruising sailboat's rig, auxiliary equipment, and configuration differ from a center console or motor yacht. A catamaran adds beam, two hulls, and potentially duplicated machinery. Tell us about significant modifications and any equipment that is installed but untested or incomplete.

Additional specialist work may be useful when machinery or structural questions materially affect the assignment. Confirm whether that work is needed and who will arrange it. The report should clearly state the level of investigation and its limitations.
