FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS?

What is a marine survey?

A marine survey is a professional inspection of a vessel’s condition, systems, and value, commonly required for purchase, insurance, financing, or marina approval.

Why is a marine survey important?

Many vessels fall under state or federal jurisdiction. Non-compliance can result in fines, denied insurance, or legal action. A survey helps identify safety, condition, and potential compliance issues before problems arise.

What does a marine survey include?

Inspection of the hull, structure, machinery, electrical, plumbing, safety systems, and overall condition. Sea trials and haul-outs are included when required or requested.

Do I need a haul-out?

A haul-out is required for full inspection of the hull bottom, running gear, and underwater components and is often required by insurers and lenders.

Who schedules the haul-out?

The vessel owner is responsible for scheduling all haul-outs with the marina or boatyard. The surveyor may coordinate timing, but haul-out arrangements are handled independently. Haul-out charges are separate from the surveyor’s fee.

What is a sea trial?

A sea trial evaluates engine performance, handling, steering, cooling, drivetrain, and overall vessel operation under normal conditions.

How long does a marine survey take?

Most surveys take several hours depending on vessel size, complexity, and whether a sea trial or haul-out is involved.

When will I receive the report?

Preliminary findings are often provided the same day. The final comprehensive report is typically delivered within three business days.

Can deficiencies be removed after repairs?

Yes. If deficiencies are corrected, a discounted follow-up inspection can verify repairs and allow the report to be amended if appropriate.

How much does a marine survey cost?

Pricing is based on vessel length, survey type, and scope. Contact us for a detailed quote.

How do I schedule a survey?

Contact us for a quote, complete the survey request form, and we will coordinate scheduling with you.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment details are provided with your quote. Payment is typically due prior to or at the time of the survey.

Will you coordinate with marinas or brokers?

Yes. We coordinate access and timing with marinas, yards, brokers, and owners as needed.

Are your surveys accepted by insurers and lenders?

Yes. Our surveys are prepared in a professional format commonly accepted by insurance companies, lenders, and marinas.
