Insurance Survey Planning for Titusville Boat Owners

An insurance survey is often needed when a boat changes carriers, renews coverage, returns to use, or requires updated condition-and-valuation documentation. Great River & Lakes – Marine Surveying Co. welcomes inquiries for vessels in Titusville, Mims, Port St. John, and the northern Indian River area.

Our Cocoa Beach office is planned to open in November 2026. Contact us to confirm availability and the required scope before arranging a launch or making plans around a renewal deadline. Send the insurer's written requirements with your inquiry.

Boats Afloat, Ashore & Returning from Storage

Titusville offers both waterfront mooring options and boatyard storage. That makes the boat's present condition and location important to the inspection plan. A vessel on blocks may offer useful underwater access while its machinery, cooling, plumbing, or navigation systems cannot be demonstrated in normal operation.

Tell us how long the boat has been stored, which systems are disconnected, and whether launching is planned. A report should distinguish equipment that was observed from equipment that was operated. Do not assume an inspection ashore will satisfy a carrier that has requested operating checks or an afloat visit.

What Does a Condition-and-Valuation Survey Address?

The agreed inspection may document vessel identification, specifications, accessible hull and deck structure, machinery installations, electrical systems, fuel and plumbing arrangements, steering, bilge systems, and safety equipment. An opinion of value may be included when required by the assignment.

The report identifies significant observations, recommendations, and limitations. It records the condition that could be assessed at the time of inspection; it is not a warranty or an insurance policy. The receiving carrier determines whether the report, surveyor credentials, and scope meet its requirements.

Confirm the Insurer's Instructions Before Booking

  • How recent must the survey be?

  • Is an out-of-water inspection required?

  • Are operating checks, a sea trial, or specialist machinery tests requested?

  • For a sailboat, is a separate rig inspection needed?

  • Does the carrier require a particular form, photographs, or valuation basis?

  • What is the deadline for receiving the report and any correction evidence?

There is no universal rule for survey age or inspection scope across every insurer. Sending the actual requirements avoids arranging a visit that misses a requested element.

Titusville Marina and Yard Arrangements

Provide the exact slip, storage yard, or private-dock location. Titusville Municipal Marina and the nearby Westland Marina area are local reference points for planning access. Westland advertises haul-out and launch services and upland storage. Confirm current yard rules, availability, vessel suitability, and outside-contractor access directly.

For a haul-out, supply length, beam, draft, weight, and lifting instructions. Agree on who will operate the vessel and coordinate the yard appointment. Yard charges, handling, washing, storage, or a second visit may be separate from the survey fee. Listing a facility here does not imply affiliation.

Sailboats, Cruisers & Catamarans

For a cruising sailboat, share the rig's maintenance history and any insurer request for an aloft inspection. General observations of accessible rigging do not cover every hidden fitting. A catamaran requires accurate beam and configuration details when planning access and lifting.

For powerboats, identify all engines, generators, and major equipment. The scope and time needed for a simpler outboard boat differ from those of a cruiser with extensive electrical, cooling, or auxiliary systems. Equipment added during a refit should be included in the information supplied.

Upgrades, Repairs & Value

Provide records of major work such as repowering, structural repairs, new rigging, electrical changes, or navigation upgrades. These documents help describe the vessel's current configuration. Upgrade cost is not automatically equivalent to added market value.

If the purpose is a standalone appraisal, ownership transfer, or other valuation assignment, identify that separately. A routine insurance C&V survey should not be assumed to satisfy every recipient or purpose.

Preparing the Boat and Reviewing Findings

Arrange keys, permission to inspect, safe access, and an owner or representative who knows the boat. Clear accessible inspection areas where safe and explain any equipment that must not be operated. Make prior reports, maintenance records, and relevant repairs available.

After the report, discuss required corrections with the insurer and appropriate repair professionals. If a follow-up inspection is requested, agree on its scope and the evidence the carrier expects. Acceptance and coverage decisions remain with the insurer.
