Sailboat & Rigging Survey in Sarasota, Florida
Great River & Lakes – Marine Surveying Co. works with sailboat buyers and owners assessing hull, systems and accessible rigging in Sarasota. Our Tampa Bay regional operation can quote Sarasota assignments after reviewing the vessel location and schedule. We confirm the purpose, inspection access and written deliverable before the assignment.
What the survey addresses
The agreed survey addresses accessible hull and deck, keel and rudder where visible, auxiliary machinery, chainplates and deck-level standing and running rigging. An aloft rig assessment requires a qualified rigger and separate access. We note visible limitations and recommend further work when warranted. The report records observations within the agreed scope and identifies compartments or equipment we could not inspect safely. Specialized diagnostics, laboratory work and destructive testing are separate unless specifically quoted.
Local inspection planning
Sarasota Bay, downtown docks and Longboat Key approaches give buyers and owners several boarding and sea-trial options. The vessel’s actual berth and the yard that can lift it determine the practical inspection plan. If the assignment calls for an out-of-water view or a sea trial, confirm the yard, operator, lift capacity, charges and timing independently. We can align the inspection with those arrangements once they are in place.
Prepare your request
Send the sail plan, mast and rig age, standing-rigging replacement history, grounding or lightning history, auxiliary-engine details and haul-out plans. Arrange sail and locker access and advise if an aloft rigger will attend. Include the vessel’s year, make, model, length, exact berth, access contact and preferred date. Forward any insurer, lender or contract deadline and written report requirements at the outset.
Findings and next steps
Our written report is based on the vessel’s observable condition on inspection day. Material limitations and recommendations for follow-up by a qualified technician or yard are stated where appropriate. A survey does not guarantee future performance or a third party’s acceptance of the report.
Common question
Is a masthead or aloft rig inspection included? A deck-level visit cannot establish the condition of upper fittings. Arrange an aloft specialist if that evaluation is needed.
