Boat and yacht survey planning in Cocoa Beach

Buying a boat near Cocoa Beach or arranging an inspection for an existing vessel starts with a clear question: what do you need the survey to establish? Great River & Lakes – Marine Surveying Co. welcomes inquiries about pre-purchase surveys, insurance and condition and value reports, and marine damage inspections in the Cocoa Beach area.

Our Cocoa Beach office is planned to open in November 2026. Contact us to discuss your vessel, timing, and service requirements. Availability and travel arrangements must be confirmed before you book a haul-out or commit to an inspection date.

Cocoa Beach, Port Canaveral, and Merritt Island

A Cocoa Beach mailing address does not always identify where a boat can be inspected. Your vessel may be at a Banana River dock, in a Port Canaveral marina, on a trailer, or at a Merritt Island yard. Provide the boat’s exact location and whether it is afloat or ashore so access and inspection logistics can be reviewed.

Harbortown Marina on Merritt Island describes its location between the Indian River and Banana River and access toward the Atlantic through Port Canaveral. Its service department lists haul-and-launch facilities and welcomes third-party marine services. Ask the yard directly about your vessel’s dimensions, lift suitability, outside-surveyor requirements, and available dates. A facility listing here does not imply affiliation or a reserved appointment.

Across the lagoon, Cocoa Village Marina is on the western shore of the Indian River in Cocoa. Cocoa and Cocoa Beach are separate communities: identifying the actual marina or street address helps prevent scheduling and travel misunderstandings. A boat at a private dock may require different access arrangements from one at a commercial marina.

Pre-purchase boat inspections before closing

A pre-purchase marine survey helps a buyer evaluate a particular boat before completing the purchase. Listing photographs and a dockside showing cannot answer every question about accessible structure, installed equipment, maintenance, and visible repair history. The scope should fit the vessel, its condition, and your purchase deadline.

Depending on the agreed package and safe access, inspection areas may include:

  • Accessible hull, deck, transom, structural members, and visible evidence of damage or water intrusion.

  • Machinery installation, steering, controls, and accessible propulsion components.

  • Electrical wiring, batteries, fuel-system components, plumbing, and ventilation.

  • Interior compartments, installed equipment, and observed safety items.

  • Condition and valuation findings appropriate to the assignment.

The report documents observations, limitations, and recommendations. Buyers can use those findings to discuss repairs, seek a specialist’s opinion, or reconsider purchase terms. A survey does not establish the condition of concealed areas, and systems that cannot be operated may require later evaluation.

Haul-out and sea-trial arrangements

Inspection afloat does not expose the underwater hull, submerged fittings, or all running gear. If those areas are important to the purchase, discuss an out-of-water inspection and coordinate a suitable haul-out with the seller and yard. Confirm yard charges separately; a survey appointment does not automatically reserve a lift.

A sea trial may be included in an agreed package when the vessel is ready, an authorized operator is available, and conditions permit. Confirm who will operate the boat, who authorizes equipment use, and where the trial will begin and end. Detailed engine diagnostics or specialized mechanical testing may require a separate technician.

Insurance and condition and value surveys

Owners may need a survey for an insurance application, renewal, lender request, or marina requirement. Send the requesting organization’s written instructions before scheduling. Required scope, valuation, photographs, and whether a haul-out is necessary can differ from a buyer’s pre-purchase inspection.

We can discuss an assignment suited to the stated purpose and accessible vessel. Acceptance of the final report is determined by the insurer, lender, or marina; providing its requirements early helps avoid an incomplete inspection plan.

Marine damage inspections

Following a grounding, collision, storm, or other incident, a damage inspection can document visible vessel condition and affected components. Provide the incident date, current location, photographs already available, and any adjuster instructions. Explain whether the boat is afloat, hauled out, or awaiting repairs.

Safe access and the agreed inspection scope determine what can be documented. Hidden damage may need additional access or specialist assessment. Survey findings do not determine insurance coverage or guarantee a claim outcome.

What to send when requesting a Cocoa Beach survey

  • Vessel year, make, model, length, and propulsion type.

  • Exact marina, yard, storage address, or private-dock location.

  • Survey purpose and any insurer or lender instructions.

  • Purchase deadline or preferred inspection period.

  • Seller or broker contact and the person authorized to provide access.

  • Whether a haul-out, sea trial, or separate engine inspection is being considered.

Can I request a survey before the office opens?

You can submit an inquiry now. Tell us your required date so we can discuss availability and arrangements directly. The planned November 2026 opening does not itself confirm an appointment or current local-office operation.

Does a boat need to be in Cocoa Beach?

Include the precise location for boats in nearby Cape Canaveral, Merritt Island, or Cocoa as well. Scheduling and travel are reviewed for each assignment rather than assumed from the city named in a listing.
